Murgol's Burglar Guide

Throughout my entire experience with MMO’s, I’ve played a variety of classes: Healers, Tanks, Nukers, and even Rogue types. But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer uniqueness of the Burglar class in LotRO. Like many people, I got into the class thinking I’d have another Rogue, sneaking around and doing tons of damage from behind the target. Boy was I wrong.

While the Burglar does have a number of skills which do increased damage from behind the target or from stealth, generally damage is not his focus. So what is his focus then? To answer that question, one needs to look at the origin of the Burglar class in LotRO: None other than Bilbo Baggins, the Hobbit homebody-gone-hero of J.R.R. Tolkien’s first-published Middle Earth book, The Hobbit. While the LotRO Burglar doesn’t have the advantage of a magic ring like Bilbo did, he will find himself doing a lot of the same sort of things as Bilbo: saving his party’s bacon while looking after himself.
