Okay, I'll try it

I remember this one from one or two years back when it was in development. It had a a kind of cool stylized look to the artwork.

I was having a look at the combat system you described here. Looks interesting. . .

The combat system in TCoS is made to increase the effect of tactical choices made by the player during combat. Furthermore there are too many games that use a combat system that is too dependent on damage outcome using formulas and percentages that sort of take away player control. For instance if a combatant wins due to a lucky streak of critical hits or by using a weapon which does random bonus damage, the outcome is not based on player skill but on sheer luck.

The ability to customize your own unique style of fighting tactics and combos sounds really good too, and also coordinating your fighting styles with others in the game has real possibilities.

And the Skilldeck cylinder looks pretty cool.

I'm going to download it this afternoon. See you in the post-apocalyptic aftermath of the Ancestor World thingy.

ill look for you

Played a little more today. Found the main city. Very cool place but I think I was too low level to get any quests there.

Spellborn Info

I have a spellcaster Alghol on the Dorzham server.

So far I'm impressed with the atmosphere and the look of the game. The combat system really takes some getting used to. It's not that it isn't intuitive, but it's just very different from standard MMO combat UIs. It seems to live up to its promise of being unique and 100% player-skill dependent. So far I can't hit the broad side of a barn. :P

The intro tutorial is unique, really works closely with you to help you get it (movement, interaction, combat system). The intro quests are interesting and often funny. They may not be completely original (no more than in any other game) but they are written with a clever and witty style that makes them fun to do.

I love the look of my daevi character. :)

Woot I might write a full review of the game.

l'll look for you

I could not get Orbawyn into the game, maybe because I use that name on the forums. Anyway I'll look for you when I go in again. The only thing that saddens me about the game is the low number of people. it looks like a large well developed world. I was wrong about the lack of quests. As I level and up and finish quests I keep finding more.

Here's something interesting. I could not get anyoneto help me with one of the quests. So I got some npcs to help. Turns out the outlaws and wild life will fight each other. I had a bird creature to kill (The Mauler). I lured the outlaws in to chasing me right in to it and while they beat up on The Mauler I filled them with arrows. By the time they died the bird was at a level of health that i could kill him. This is the kind of thing i love in a game. Hope it fills up with enough people to keep it from closing early.

Spellborn Spellbound

Right. . .

I have to post this very pretty video from You Tube showcasing the amazing scapes of this very cool little game. The first thing I noticed when playing was how beautiful the art is, the lovely stylized architecture and detail that become apparent early on, in the city of Hawksmouth. I really felt like I wanted to see the rest of the world, but with a free account to only level 9.9, I don't know if I ever will. So I went looking for some videos that would show it to me.

The thing that becomes apparent when watching this video (with some really cool accompanying music -- thanks lumay2u) is the sheer mystic, ethereal beauty of this game. Just breath taking! And the combat, which is seen here like a beautiful, swift, deadly dance, flying and spinning about the target--wow, not many games that you can do that in! it really shows the potential of Spellborn's liberated combat system.

I'm mesmerized watching this. :)

I agree...

That is a great video. Thanks for postingit. I will probably plunk down 14 bucks and play for another month. I want to see some of the other areas. It's sad that such a great game is not getting much notice from the gaming public.

You mentioned a deadly dance. I have noticed that some mobs will try and flank you and as i mentioned earlier they also try and kite you. There are so many details with the game that keep popping out when you least expect it. Playing a skinshifter has given me the liberty to travel y quickly through different areas and see most of the two zones available for the free to play introduction.

I stumbled across the 5th house yesterday, Shroud. The oldest of the houses prefers to keep to them selves tucked away in a canyon and like the other 5 is nicely rendered with a well developed background story.

I was given a quest to visit all of the houses that in the end gives you the option of joining one. I chose Shroud mostly because its cool and because there is an active group of players from there that come out on weekends and sit in the starter area to help newbies.

Decision

Ya, I like the mob AI. This game is really a beautiful and ambitious work, and I agree with what you say about it being really unfortunate and sad it hasn't grabbed the attention it deserves. It's an amazing game, and very unique. It's artful and witty. I really am liking this game, and as I approach the 9.9 set level cap for the free trial, I'm not wanting to put it down. :)

I will need to decide if I will keep playing it. Now that I'm getting a better feel for the way combat plays, I'm likewise getting a full a appreciation for its freedom and power. Sorry, but its just way fun.

I've seen most of the second zone and visited some of the houses. I love how they all look so different, from the big evil castle look of House Maul to the cool mystic look of House Rune.

Getting a chance to play and see more of Spellborn is especially important right now because the game will be going elsewhere by next year. :(

Decisions.
