I checked out the youtube performances of the shades. Wow, what beautiful music, and composed by one of the members looks like. omg, they are amazing.
LOL, I can't say we are quite that accomplished.
But I can only speak for myself concerning the schooled part. I'm not classically schooled, ha don't I wish, but I can very effectively press the right buttons on LotRO MIDI Player's abc utility. ;)
Murgol was actually the one who began creating ABC files using his background scripting knowledge and a few basic abc creation programs that required some abc notation know-how, and got a few of us in our kinship to try them out. They worked--they sync up everything for us--and they were a lot of fun. We gave a few concerts in Bree that went over well, so we created a small abc file library on LOTROinfo for others to download to try for themselves.
Since then a couple more got involved creating abc's, using an easier program, and it broadened our library. We added an abc request form to the site, which added some files to our library as well.
There is only a brief (and poor quality) music video of us performing Scarsborough Fair posted at vimeo, and another silly monkey-and-organ-grinder one of Velvyn and Murgol performing Funiculì, Funiculà, which was on the front page of the site for a short time. I plan to add more performances of us soon, which will be posted at youtube. All the brief sound clips on our abc file library were performed by us as well.
We still give concerts in Bree now and then and they are very well received (not anywhere to level of the shades though ;)), and we always have fun doing them. In fact, if anyone plays on Brandywine, we invite you to some over and watch us perform some time.
Only problem is I wish we had more kins interested in abc playing. We have some great 5 and 6 part abc compositions but only 4 people who play, rassa frassa. >:| ;)
Aye, I know Achazia (Band Leader of The Shades) same server, Hirunath. She makes writing ABC's easy, though I myself have done about...6-7 'o 'em....gave up because of all the hassle.
