Having successfully completed the pipe-weed cross-breeding tree to make the ultimate smoke, I have a few insights to the whole process that I can share.

The Basics

First: Your major concern should be to make seed.

Second: You don't need the field recipes for the lesser pipe weed. You will get just as much seed when using the cross breeding recipes.

Third: Be a master in each of the tiers before using the recipes. You won't get the seed you need if you are not.

Pipeweed seeds organized by Tier

Forth: To start, you will need 6 of each of the world-drop seeds,

• Sweet Lobelia
• Rushlight
• Hornblower
• Old Toby

(Unless you are very unlucky or forget to use a master component.)

Where to Find the World-Drops

Fifth: Only farm pipe-weed for the fun of it. I thought it was a lot of fun, though a bit costly to buy the recipes.

Note: To grow Eagle's Nest, Gamwich Braid, and Wizard's Fire, you will need to be at the Superior Pipe-Weed fields that are just east of Hobbit Town.

Where to Find the World-drops:

• Loot from chests, backpacks, and corpses
  

• Humanoid mobs such as orcs and goblins
  

• NPC Seward Proudfoot, located just outside the Prancing Pony, gives 6 Sweet Lobelia seeds as a quest reward in exchange for goods that can be made by a cook.
  

• The Great Barrows instance drops seeds from several chests near the entrance.
